Tri III, LA 1, Due 3/15/09

For 8th and 9th Grade: What things do we need to copy in this performance of Procession of the Nobles? What do they do that we should do as well?

7th Grade: How does the speed of the music and the speed of the notes affect their ability to play?

It affects them, because they wouldn't have that much rest so they will have to take a big breath at the beginning. It might affect them if they have to go from low to high notes in a limit of time.

We need to copy how they're sitting up straight, and how they follow the conductor as they play their music. Also what they do that we should do as well is they keep together while playing the piece and they play the right dynamics and rhythms.

I think that as of right now the only thing that our band does that is similar to this band is play the same song(: This band was very crisp and precise. I didn't hear a single note slip out of place. I think that our band needs to work on being as crisp as this group.

we deffinantly need to make are notes clearer and accented. we also need to make the creshendoos and decreshendos better!

First, I would like to say that I think they did a really nice job with this piece- it sounded very crisp. I think we should also try to make our sound very crisp and neat like they did- very march-like. Right now, we are really mushy but this band is really dead on and it sounds really good. I liked their speed and I hope we can get up to that speed as well. Personally, I can work on my snare part and make it as clear and crisp and in time as the snare player in this band. We need to articulate like this band and separate our notes. They had a nice triangle sound as well, and I think we should try to get the same balanced sound.

they have to contol their breathing and note speed and they cant breath as fast as the music so the players have to make sure that their partners will cover them when they are breathing between measures

isaac l.

Anonymous said...

it realy hard for because they are not able to make much air so they breathe bewteen measure

I think we should copy their posture for sure, and how they listen to each part and play correct dynamics. We should play more like they did in the area of spreading out their notes, you could hear every single note played very easily.

I think that they had a really good sound, and that is really one of our problems right now. We also need to separate our notes, so you can easily hear every note. The flutes have a lot of notes that need to stand out, so i personally need to work on that.

They have good articulation and the tempo is a lot faster than what we play at right now.

We should follow the conductor, sit up straight, and play our notes correctly. Also our dynamics is a big thing I think because it sounds like if we follow them correctly, we will be able to hear the staccatos and emphasis in each note of our rhythms.

we need to copy how they follow the dynamics and melody. they stand up straight thats what we should do and also take big deep breaths

Isaac C. D.

We should play shorter notes.
We should speed up a little (after we get use to it).
We should also try to keep the triangle, even for the high notes (which is hard to keep)
We should try to hear the melody, instead of the background.

I agree with other comments,we need to sit up straight, practice more, follow the conducter better, keep together, work on de/creshendos and clearifying notes, and rhythms and we might be able to achive their level of skill!

they probably have to move there tongue real fast for speed and probably gets tired playing fast and high notes.

the way the song goes, the slower the song, its more likely the palyers are able to play more fluently and right notes, and thus making the song better.

-mike R

Anonymous said...

They did realy well and i think we can to if we just get faster and work on dynamics

Paige P

How speed affects playing ability is that sometimes your going so fast that you can't hit the right notes on time.

Jacob B.

Anonymous said...

I think that we need to move our fingers faster to make the notes more sturdy and be more confident in ourselves. We could sit up straight, listen to each other and probably practice more.

-Michele T.

Anonymous said...

I think we need to copy the accented notes and sitting up straight. We should try to play the right dynamics so it sounds more entertaining.

John E.

Well we need to up the speed quite a bit and practice like 10-20 mins a night to become better. Sitting up straighter would help are sound, sound like the group we just listened to and watching the conductor attentively would be another helpful thing to do.

-Mark G.

we need to copy how clear the notes are played. how emphasized each individual note is played.
we should also copy how nothing
is slurred. every note is heard.

This band played this song very well. Especially being a clarinet, I was surprised with the speed at which they were getting all of those difficult notes out. They balance their sound very well, and we should too. We need to make sure the melody gets out there because in my opinion, it's the coolest part of the song. We need to also practice a lot to get every single not included, otherwise we wouldn't be doing the piece justice. They separate their notes very well and make them sound individual. They also are getting all of the accidentals. We need to work on being relaxed so that we are not being so loud and can move our fingers faster. For the clarinets: We can learn from this group to work very hard to make the higher notes sound as clean, clear, and well-played as they do.

it affects the playing if the music had a rest in it they would not be able to stop in time.

Breon M.

Anonymous said...

i think we need to copy them by sitting up straighter and following the conductor better. also we could practice a little more on this song to get better .

Jake K

Anonymous said...

the notes of there piece were very precise not really staccato but very together and we need to practice that.

Anonymous said...

it affects them because if they get mixed up once they mess up the whole song and they cant change the pitches they play

Hugo v

Anonymous said...

it affects them by making them breathe more often

-mac

Their sound was excellent and I really think we need to copy that. There wasn't one instrument that stood out over the rest of the band. The speed of the piece also makes a difference and I think it sounds better when it goes faster and more march-like.

-Eric Ro.

Anonymous said...

We firstly need to go the speed that they do in the piece. We also should articulate our notes better.

Sean P.

Anonymous said...

one thing that we need to copy in this performance is how cleanly each note was played. all of their eighth notes were staccato. another thing that we need to copy is that we should be clearer with our notes like they are at one minute. a third thing that we need to copy from this performance is we need to have all of us start and end the last note together.
these few things would make this piece sound a whole lot nicer.

-nick d.

Anonymous said...

Obviously if we want to get to this point we have to listen in class and have good posture. They go at a faster tempo and use good dynamics.
Brian H.

Anonymous said...

we need to copy how they breath and sit up straight.

cassandra s.

Anonymous said...

in our performance we need to make all of our notes very clear. this is what makes this band sound so great. we also need to stay together as well as they do.

-Amanda M

Anonymous said...

It doesn't effect their ablitly because they seemed to play very nicly and they did not seem exhasted after they were done.

Ben F.

Anonymous said...

I think we need to work on our articulation. Ours is very smashed together and with theirs you can hear every note. We should copy their posture and how well they follow the conductor.

Jason H.

Anonymous said...

We need to work on making the song faster and more precise. I was surprised that you never heard a single note that was off. I think that we just need ALOT more practice.

-Julia B.

Anonymous said...

I think we need to copy just about everything they are doing. we don't have alot done with the piece. I mean most sections have rhythyms down, but some sections don't have the right notes. But the biggest thing i noticed in difference was that they were very confident and sharp with how they played, our band is a little unsure about how they are playing, the notes aren't really confident, or defined

-Alec G

Anonymous said...

I think that when they all know the speed of the music and knows each note they focus on the music more and so it comes out better. Also you hear each individual note clearer.

Jessica E. :)

Anonymous said...

It affects them because they have to take bigger breaths and control how they use it better.

Nicole W.

Anonymous said...

They played a little louder and had to breathe more also when they play notes its like they hit the notes real hard

Kiante B

Anonymous said...

It affects them because they have to play faster and use more enegry.

Brennan C.

Anonymous said...

I think the speed of the notes and the music would make them tired a lot faster than if the music or notes were slower. When the notes are played fast, it is easier to make a mistake.

James B.

Anonymous said...

The faster they play the cooler it sounds they need to have a good amount of breath marks or rests to breathe on

Caleb O.

Anonymous said...

We need to copy the way that band plays the notes very clear and precise. A big thing was staying together. I didn't hear one instrument speed up or slow down, which our band has a tendency to do. I liked the speed of it when they played it, and i hope we can get up to that speed. Got lots of work to do but it will pay off :)

Rachel H.

Anonymous said...

We should take the same posture as they do to gain a much better sound like they do and we should follow the director as well as they do. We should practice to play all the notes right with the right rhythm and dynamics like they do.

Anonymous said...

The ways it affects them are how good at playing their instrument they have to be, how fast they have to switch pitches and tones.

-Bennett E

Anonymous said...

first of be way faster ! ha ..We need to play the right notes play the right speed and play the right dynamics... KI think we need to be louder ha. But we need to practice more well i doo. But yeah They did really good and im thinkin since we have a month left we will be able to play this song like them :)

Cody W.

We need to play each note as precise as this group did. They all played each note for the exact same amount of time, so it sounded really exact and very precise. They also had really good posture.

-Heidi R.

Anonymous said...

we should have the same posture that they do and dynamics. we should also speed up a little bite

Anonymous said...

I think that they have to have fast fingers and blow faster air depending on their instrument. They also have to have tighter lips.

NIARIAH W.

Anonymous said...

we as the trumpets need to tounge the notes more.

Israel W

Anonymous said...

We need to play more stacottoed and ALOT faster, we need to copy how they sit up(posture) and how they play. They are very good. We need to copy how they count like how they count the rests. They should work on the slurring, both of our bands need to do that.

--Rachel K.

Anonymous said...

one they have had much more expeirence.two they have been playing longer cole y

Anonymous said...

it dont affect them, their all staying still.

jordan v

Anonymous said...

it was pretty good but they did a lot of resting in the begging.
they probably get really tired from playin fast

erick n

I think that we need to play as articulated as these guys, because they did not have any notes slip out of place, and the people within each group stopped at the same time everyone else did. They also did not have any one group stick out, which i think we need to work on.

Billy L.

I think that they way they keep their notes crisp and clear is something we should learn as well. Also I think that they way they could emphasize their crescendos could also make our performance sound good too. The way they made the notes sound stacatto and didnt let one note extend into a tenuto was great! I think we tend to hold some notes longer when it isnt written like that in the music. Also, we tend to stop and take a breath during notes that need its full value. I think by figuring out which section of the song deserves what kind of note length, our song would sound just as good as this one. (:
-Nikki C.

Anonymous said...

it affects them by if they have high and then low notes its harder to keep rythm and not alot of correct notes

Hugo V

Anonymous said...

they played really really fast! they finished about a whole minute faster then us.. wow! i wish we could go that fast. we should also fallow their example of their notes. they were so clear and had a nice tone. we should go for that.

-sierra maurer 2nd hour 8th grade. :]

it depends on what song there playing to me. some songs are better played slow, some better to play fast.

-austin n

They didn't sound like they had much time to breathe, and they have to make sure that they're not slurring but with the tempo being so fast it might be hard to not slur.

Anonymous said...

When they play each note the right speed and the right time it would sound better and clearer because you don't hear people fall behind on the notes.
-Cynthia D. :P

Anonymous said...

I think we need to staccato and to go in more smoothly, less noticeable.
We need to work on that along with the triangle sound and we need to do better in that part that were not good at yet.

mollie m.

Anonymous said...

They stick together really well. they're notes are very well played and all staccatos/accents etc are played greatly.

Kyle C.

Anonymous said...

it affects their ability to play by making there figering better

~Victor R.

This band sounded really great. Their notes are really crisp and clear and it doesn't sound like a bunch of mush. Also when multiple sections are playing the same parts they are playing the exact same way exactly together and they know when to play out and when to hold back. That is what i think we need to work on.

--Sam W.

Anonymous said...

For me i need to think of the note and what key it is but i cant play that fast. but for them they played very well and the note were very clear.

We need to make the notes more staccato and we need to pay attention to the dynamics and make Mr. Terry dance when we play this song which would be hard. we also will need to make the audisnce dance and clarinets need to play faster at the beggining and we also need to get the measure 78 down it would be good. We need to improve on the dynamics and we need to pay attention to Mr. Terry and how he condocts for us and we need to fallow that. We need to sound more like a band some sections stick out when we play and how we would perform this piese of music. We also need to bring the mellody out more the people would get the dancing movement and the low brass needs to play louder so they can get the attention from the audiance and our solos are good but the band needs to quiet down and then we can attack them with a great sound like this group did.
Svetlana Z

Anonymous said...

We should sit up straight like they do. Also we should follow the director and the dynamics.

Tony M.

Anonymous said...

I don't really think it affects their playing; they're really good and I guess they can still play even though the music is pretty fast.

~Abbie S.

It makes you worry about making a mistake more because of the speed if played fast.
