How does a group of this size (20 or so players) get so much power and so much impact out of their sound? What is it that they do specifically? List at least 2 things.

(1.Trombones and trumpets had some thing on the horn to make the instrument sound louder.
they get the impact by looking at the conductor. they also get this brillent sound by not playing so loud, they make sure that each part is played to the correct volum and pitch. also if one section of instuments were loud the would put muffles on the bell.
one thing that they do is they play real soft so when they play the high loud notes it makes more of an impact. Another thing they do is they all play together bringing out the sound more.
They get so much power because they seem more confident in what they are doing (so they play louder), they are in tune, and they seem to all stay together, all these just amplify the sound. When your not confident in what your playing you don't play as loud, but these people look like they know what they are doing, they play loud and strong. They seem all in tune, when some one is out of tune it sort of gets rid of some sound, but when they are all in tune(angels singing)it just makes it louder. They stay together, if someone isn't in thier spot then they wouldn't be helping with how well the group is doing. -Alec G
the wind players use A Lot of air to get that powerful sound, where the strings would strum strongly, and the drums would hit the drum hard, but in control, to get a good, powerful sound. Another thing they did was they played into the audience, instead of their stand. -Billy L.
The percussion instruments played with force and played suddenly and accented. Also the other instruments played within the triangle, but also played suddenly and accented.
i thought they made an impact with their sound by backing off if they didnt have the melody. they also had one person playing loud and clear with the melody to emphisise it.
This group played big even though they were small. They were extremely good and played all the right notes. That definitely helped them sound big- by playing confidently and well. Also, by playing drastic dynamics, going from really quiet to really loud made the group sound bigger than it was (the crescendos). The large number of brass instruments made the band sound powerful and having soloists followed by the whole band made for powerful transitions. Lastly, the multiple things going on and multiple instruments and sounds added to the strong sound of the band.
It could be that they have just about mastered how to play, or it could be the stage, they might have hidden microphones(doubt it), or they could have fixed it with computers, like you said in class the other day Mr. Terry.
One of the things I noticed were the really dramatic dynamic changes. Also, everything flows together, even when they did the random jumble close to the beginning. Jacob H.
One thing the band is doing is sitting up straight so they can play better. A second thing they are doing is certin insterments play at the same time.Such as the trombones play all there notes at the same time.
that is how they get such good noise and sound good
They practiced a lot and they played loud they also played the right dinamics and every thing they had to do was to form the triange to play so well. Svetlana Z
one way that this group gets so much power from their sound is that they are in tune, which always makes a group sound louder. another thing that they do to get a lot of power is they have big differences in their dynamics. they actually play piano or mezzo forte so when they do play forte it sounds a lot louder than the other dynamics that they played.
1. They emphasize there dynamics when they play. 2. The 2 guys playing strings/percussion is not playing as loud as the trumpets/saxes/brass. 3. It's not that BIG of a group, so they probably learned a lot easier and faster from their rehearsals.
The reason this group gets so much power is because they sit up straight and put emphasis on their notes. Another thing is that the trumpets are standing and pointing their bells out so the sound can move more thoroughly.

WOW. great performance. i think the group with only 20 people have a great impact is of [one important key] their posture; how they're sitting. wonderful posture = wonderful sound. another important key is that they musicians play correct notes. when notes are incorrect it sounds like they mute one another, and all you hear is "blahhh". or nothing. (:
I think that this group is able to get most of its power from the dramatic changes in dynamics while holding the notes for it's whole note. They also have their solo, which is very well heard, and the balance between different the high, middle, and low voices.
Dynamics are huge in making a band sound big and powerful. Another thing is seperating different instruments. Like giving that certain section its own part to play. Makes the band seem larger in size.
The band really emphasizes the dynamics in the song and by playing them in unison, it made it much louder. The brass section played their instruments loudly but with a good sound.
Throughout the song, the players take turns playing solos while the rest of the band plays softer than the soloist. I think this technique makes it seem like the band is playing louder than they really are. The band is also sitting up straight and emphasizing their dynamics.
they really play fortissimo at some points, but they don't overdo it so it still sounds good and in control. they also really played in tune with each other which really helped project the sound and make it sound fuller.
Besides just playing louder, i think that they get o much impact because they not only play loud, but they have a strong base part with the lower instruments. The percussion also adds power to their sound a lot with the drums. Another way i think they give off so much impact is because they differenciate between the different dynamics a lot. They emphasize the accents also. They have a good strong loud tone. I think they also know how to breath large and together; if they play at the same time, the spaces in between will seem more quiet and when they play it will be much louder.
They play together and sit up straight. They also blow hard enough but stay in control. They also emphasize the dynamics. They play extra soft then when they play louder it seems louder. -Nicole C.
A group this size gets so much powerr and so much impact out of their sound by; practing a bunch, trying their best to perform well, watching the conductor, keeping time with their foot, paying attention to dynamics, watching for tempo changes, and looking at any key signature changes.
I think that they play together has a great deal to do with it. Also, the started out soft, then instantly loud, which gave makes it seem like their forte was much louder than usual. :) -Nikki C.

The group puts alot of effert into the way they play the dynamics and they also put a lot of effert in to following the director.

They play piano really soft so when they play forte it has greater affect.
Also they kept their volume in a triangle.

One: i think when they play piano(p) they play it pp. so, it makes the forte (f) seem more like ff.
Two: they way they take air in. like as if they need to play quite they take a deeper breath (faster)then they have to play loud, well not really.
-Mai P.
They take advantage of the dynamics and the take advantage of the rhythm to articulate each note
It seems like they play forte when they play together. They all play the same notes when there in a group.

1.they use mics.
2.they know how to play loud

They use force when they play. They can also all play at the same time which gives them alot of sound.
They play loud, and play in unicon
-Rachel K.
They give a lot of power to their percussion and rhythm section and they have really extreme dynamics plus really great tone

they play real loud and they play at the same time so the song feels louder and more stronger when you play all together.
-austin n
I think they know how to balance the sound properly and so they know how loud to play, and allow everyone to be heard.
they obviously practive too, you can tell by the way they play dynamics.
