How is this performance different from how we currently play this piece?

some of this piece is very much like how we play it, and other parts of this piece are very different than how we play it. the biggest difference i heard was that they have big spaces between many of the notes that they play. and (i dont think) big breath marks are written into our music. also we have many different sounds in this song, but they only have brass instruments. and another thing that was different from how we play this song (i couldnt help but notice) was that, um, they play this A LOT better than we do!

oops!

First thing i noticed (other than the fewer ammount of people), was that the intro was a bit different, also, they're playing it as if it's a marching or funeral song (slower and quieter). There's also the fact that sience we havn't "mastered" this peice, ours sounds very touch-and-go compared to their playing very well without the music sitting in front of them. The piece is Silvercrest obviously (to me).

I'm sorry Mr.T but I can't answer the question because I don't know the song that is being played frankly I don't think the 7th grade brass has even played that song.

This performance is different then how we play it because they play without any music or a conductor. It is also different because they are all brass instruments.

It is different because they play very well in piano and they were able to get to the very high notes and still stay together. it was amazing.

Lower instruments. Not that many people are playing the music as the last one. It's more calm and relaxing also more interesting, because you never know when the exciting part is going to be and when they are going to play loud and scare you. The two trumpets players are switching instruments to a different trumpet. Most of them are standing except for the one person who is playing the huge instrument, also there is no clarinets that are playing. No one is the big part of the show and taking over every thing. They are sharing the melody that they are playing.

Well, the most obvious different way is that there is 5 of them and 65 of us. In addition, they are all brass instruments. They also play with no music in front of them, and they take turns playing the melody. This version is also longer than the way that we play it. Lastly, we have very different notes compared to what they have, and they seemed to of have played a little slower than what we play now.

they definitley play it a lot slower than we do. It sounds really cool though. They also are somewhat outnumbered by how many people are in our band (:

-dylan m.

The first difference is obvious- there are only 5 musicians playing the piece and they are all playing brass instruments. They also play the song much slower than we do and much more slurred. They play the piece much calmer than we do and with more delicately.

- Emily S.

Anonymous said...

It sounds familiar. But I think they play with more slurs then we play with. I think its 2 beats per measure.

They dont have higher voices to help them out, or percussion, and they're a lot better. Mark H.

Well, the performance/piece is more played at a much slower pace than how we play it. Much slower. With only brass instruments playing, the sounds is more bold and majestic. For us, we have the whole band emsemble, so you'll hear the tiny, high pitched instruments compared to the video; more of a light, delicate and "airy" sound to us.

i really dont now what that piece is called id say there playing in shifts.cole y.

They're in tune, they follow there dynamics, they're really good at crescendos and decrescendos, and there professionals.
As to we, we are not in tune most of the time, we're okay for our dynamics and correct notes. I think we will get better, but not great like them (of course).

Well first of all our band has 65 members in it and this band only has 5 members in it. They also are much better than we are at playing their instrument and, they seem to play the song much slower than we do. I bet those guys have been playing for at least 20+ years when we have been playing for 3-4 years.

-Mark G.

Currently, we play this piece much faster than they are. I think that they also play the beginning melody much better with more slurring. Playing clarinet, i notice that some of our parts, they have split up so that the lower instruments play them as well.
They also seem to speed up at some parts, where as we currently stay at the same tempo most of the time. I think that our crescendoes and de-crescendoes are more drastic having a larger band. Our sound is a lot bigger in general with ultimately may hinder the music because they played it beautifully with just a few members.
Having fewer members, they also play a lot more in tune with each other and have a better triangle sound. Their parts seem to fit much differently together than ours do, too, but in their own way.

fewer amount of people and we play it alot faster

-mac

This piece, Largo, is much different when they play it because they are only 5, compared to our group of 64? They don't percussion or woodwinds either.

Sean P.

we play this piece alot faster.we need to work on our dynamics and make them more darastic. also we have more instruments.

Jessica L

Anonymous said...

Well i would tell you mr. T. if i knew the song title. but they did play very nice and slow.
Brian H.

I dont know this piece but they do go slower than our songs
Isaac C. D.

i think they played better then us becuause they played the nots pretty much. took it slow. and didnt mess up.

Well first off there aren't any flutes :) kidding* well actually true. But also there were only five people playing. They way they harmonized went very smoothly. I think that when we play, we play it a bit faster and more upbeat, while they people in this video play it slower. I like how they slur their entrances together. I think we need to learn how to welcome other instruments' entrances in like they do :)

-Nikki C.

Anonymous said...

this piece was played differently in ways like the tempo the instruments etc. the tempo was slightly slower than we would normaly play it.. there also were only brass instruments. their playing was also a lot more smooth and tenuto like

~Richard N.

Anonymous said...

They are only playing low brass instruments and they are going a lot slower.

Caleb Orton

They are obviously much more experienced and play the peice way better than we do. One of the differences between the two peices are that ours has so many more peices whereas this one is so much more simple with only brass instruments. Since there are so few instruments and players the sound sounds smoother, less people coming in and out.

--Sam W.

They are playing on a very different set of instruments than our bands, some of which we don't even have in our band. Also they are playing it a lot slower than we do.

Hi Mr. Terry This Daiveon And How Is This Different They Are Standing up In The Video Through Out The Song...This Is A Pretty Good Song Nice!

Anonymous said...

they are playing much slower than we play it
and some parts of it are different
from ours.

Jerrell D.

Anonymous said...

The major difference is obviously that they only have brass instruments playing. Also they have less people and it seems like they play it a little slower than we do.
-Nicole C.

Anonymous said...

well, they only have five people, so thats a big change from how many we have. also, they played it a lot slower, & it was all brass instruments.

Sierra M.

Anonymous said...

This peace is palyed almost the same besides the fact that they have all brass instruments.

Caleb O.

Anonymous said...

One thing is that they get faster and we don't have any accelerandos in Largo the second Symphony
Another thing is that they play it a lot slower than us.

John E.

Anonymous said...

I don't recognise the the music so I can't contrast the two. sorry.

Drake S.

One difference is we have like 60 people and they had like 5 people and they had no conductor and we like do.

Paige

Anonymous said...

They played with only a few brass players and they had no conductor.

Jonathan B.

Anonymous said...

To start, theres only 5 players verses our band of around 60 and its only brass. The way they are playing this piece is much slower and slured more then we do.
Plus there's no percussion
so theres not as much excitement to it.
:)

they play with no music in front of them. and they are only 5 guys playing. and they sound very good
did i mention they were all standing up.

In our band with this song mainly the clarinets stick out in thsi piece, but in their band they change it so the brass instruments are in the spotlight. Also, it is much slower as if they were playing like that one morning glory song or watever it's called. it sound prettier when they play is what i'm trying to say.

Anonymous said...

one difference was that they played it alot slower than we do and also for us the clarinets play the melody.

-Amanda M

Anonymous said...

The most obvious difference is that they have five people and that we have sixty-five. They are also all playing brass instruments. Another thing I noticed was how softly they were able to play while still having a good sound. When we (try) to play piano, we don't exactly sound that good. :) Also, the intro to the piece was a little bit different, along with the notes at some points. They are also very in tune with one another.

-Heidi R.

Anonymous said...

some of it is the same as we
played it, but its slower. And they
only use four instruments and we use
various types of different instruments.

Jerrell D.

Anonymous said...

Wow that was really slow and these videos are really long.. they must be like practicing that song everyday i know i would so i can do that good of a job..

and i think ikt is different because it is played really slow..

-Jessica E.

Anonymous said...

The way i find this performance diferent from our is that they play it slower and they repeat the beginning once.

-Vijay R.

Anonymous said...

There were some things that they did the same but the things that they did different were that they added extra parts in there that are not in the music.

Tony M.

Anonymous said...

They play the song longer.....like they play quarter notes and make them like half or whole notes... and they played it much much much professionaller and much sadder..well to me it seemed they were at a funeral.

Anonymous said...

Wow they were amazing and we were diffrent because we played with the whole 7th grade band and they only played with 4 or 5 people.

Elisha C.

Anonymous said...

the fact that the players are the only ones there and the lack of other inst. makes it softer and more prone to mistakes.

Anonymous said...

I dont realy remember this pice iv been gone for a wile

well obveously(is that even how you spell it) the 1st thing I noticed was that they're only 5 people and that we play it faster.

Victor R.

Anonymous said...

A lot slower than we do. There's not really as much handing off as much as we have to focus on. but they still all fit together perfectly.
-Michele T.

Anonymous said...

Less people and instruments, seem to have memorized notes and there also seems to be no conductor.

-Steven V.

Anonymous said...

Well first off they play it slower than we do. they seem to make it flow smoother than we do. Our band has a more diversity in instruments while as they have mostly brass, ours has more texture to it. I was surprized as how loud they were for only have like 4 or 5 people up there. The music its self like notes seemed to stay the same, i don't think they added anything to the piece.
-Alec G

Anonymous said...

it is very much alike of how we play it today it has many of the same characteristics

Isaac L.

Anonymous said...

well for one this piece has WAY fewer players than us and the bass of the song sounds louder than ours(my opinoin). they crammed all the parts of the orchestra to just a few bass players.

Mr. Terry I don't think our class has played this song so i can't answer the question. Post a song that our class knows so I can answer the question.

We've never played this.
although some have already said this. But it was played nicely.

i cant really pinpoint tha name of the song...but just by looking at the players its obvious that they have fewer players and a small variety of music. i remember the song but i dont...but im positive that when we played it there were percussion instruments. This band didnt have any percussion instruments, a conductor, or music in front of them.

--Shanell M.

i think they stay together a little better than we do but we sound better because we have a lot of insterments

they played some of it like how we play it but at times they played different then we play it. they held notes for a long time and big spaces between notes.

Nicole W.

Anonymous said...

some ways they are diffrent then us is that they dont have a conductor, have only brass instraments, stand, have no music and they dont reapeat as much as we do
cassandra s.

well obvoiusly, there's a big difference in the instruments. they have 5 brass instruments and we have about 60 woodwinds, brass, and percussion combined. they have no conductor or music to read.

They only have a few different types of instruments. They are playing it so slow which bores me.. but sine they are pretty amazing i guess that does not matter much :D

first they only have 5 people playing this piece and it still sounds better then us(: haha. anyways. the have solos so you can really tell what the melody is and what the main parts are. and you can tell how much they have practiced cause they have memorized there music and have almost perfected it.

~Leanza D.

the pice was alot quiteter and with a slower tempo and a whole lot better than us!!

this pice of music is very slow but very nice sounding and fresh they look like they take alot of deeeeeeepppppp breaths and play for a long period of time

This was performed very well, and in my opinion slower then we play it. It also looked more like a song for mourning, the people who played it were in all black and i noticed when they werent playing the had their heads down. They played very well, and very slowly.

-Emily N

This song is awesome.
What I realize is that
fewer people and it is
brass players only.
Really SLOW.and lots of
pausing. but sound so sad.

Their tempo is a lot slower. I really like the sound of this song played like this. It's really soothing. Their dynamics make you feel like they are getting loud, but in reality it hasn't changed that much. This is a really cool group.

This performce is different than we played it because 1 there wasn't enough people so it kinda didn't sound that good and 2 they we playing with different instruments. But i can't really remember if we played this piece to in clarinet! Sorry :(

It seems like they played it flawlessly (Minus it was a small group) And it sounds Slower/Smoother than the way we played it.
