I want you to comment on how well, or not so well the band follows the conductor. What is it they do or don't do? How do they stay together, or what could they do better to be sure they do stay together?

i thought that they followed him well. i'm positive that they looked up quite a bit because there were very little, if any, times they sped up or slowed down without him wanting to. also they had to listen to each other because there were a lot of parts where most of the band was playing the same exact things.
This band doesn't follow the conductor as well as they could. Sometimes they get a little dramatic on the loud parts, and not soft enough on the soft parts. They articulations are good, legato when it's conducted that way, or more detached when it's conducted that way. They stay together very well in my opinion.
The group played pretty well! The conductor did a lot of hand motions just to direct the band. I get when people came in when the conductor did his hand motion. They came in right in time. I think they could use some work trying to work together. Because it seemed like it was one person playing at some parts.
I think they did a great job on following the conductor. they must have watched very closely and listened to each other. this seemed like a fairly easy piece, but it had many changes in speed and dynamics which required a very close eye.
They followed the conductor somtimes, they would kind of stray off a little than get back on track. I think that they could have practiced a little more and they would have got it down. Also they could have watched the conductor more closly so they have the right tempo. Mark H.
At the beginning some people get there instruments up late. They are all on the same beat and rythm the song was good probably hard 2 play. They did good though staying together.
They followed him sometimes, but for the most part they were all over the place. I think that they could have been paying more attention to the conductor to have had a much better performance. They could have stayed together better by counting more.
they where very good at fallowing the dirctor. the band seemed to always be in tune. the thing that they didn't do was that the didn't tap their foot. it was amazing that they could play for thst long.
The band follows the conductor very well! One thing that they do is they are all looking at the conductor when they are counting rests to make sure they don't speed up or slow down and to make sure they all come in at the same time. They also are always looking up when playing too.
They played very well they fallowed the condoctor very well. they listned to each other and thats probably they stayed toghether. They didn't look up a lot at the condoctor. Svetlana Z
Lori L. I think this group was really good, but there were some parts where they went a little too fast or too slow. I think they could improve by practicing more and also by watching the conductor more often.
I think the band did good at folowing the conductor.I think they all look at the conductor alot during the song. They all stay together by looking at the conductors movements.
The band followed the conductor very well. They started together and ended together. They stayed together by watching their music and conductor at the same time.
The band follows the conductor extremely WELL! Sections come right in on the conductors signal and slows down as much as he does. How do they stay together? They most certainly probably watch the conductor well every few two to three measures. (:
At some points, I don't think they're paying attention, because the speed is somewhat slower or yet faster. Also, in some places, the triangle just sounds off balance. They stay together in some places, but no yet. Some sections are faster by 1/16 of a beat. I think the best thing is to look up after every 5 or 10 meausures. They should also start listening to eachother, because some parts of the band (like woodwinds [clarients]) sound way too off! until the end, it started sounding alot better (4:30-ish)
For the most part the band is staying together with the conductor. The Brass and low sections were a tad off sometimes but not that noticeably. I can't really see their faces to tell what they're doing but i think the best way to stay in time is to memorize parts of the music so that you recognize where you're supposed to come in based on the other parts.
I think the band follows the conductor's actions very well. I see lots of people looking at the conductor while playing and even resting. They follow his movements and specific instructions well and, the percussionist especially, are very good at following the conductor's cues. I'm sure the band members are listening to one another while playing, which is helping them stay on together. That was a very long song, and I bet each one of the musicians were keeping time in their own heads, looking at the conductor, and listening to other sections to stay together for so long. They could've done a better job listening to the other sections to keep on track- it seemed that everyone was trying to overpower the other section. I also didn't see many feet tapping keeping track of time- this could've helped, too.
They followed very well until the end the ended about 1 beat to early but for the rest of it, it was great. They would stay together better at the end if they would glance up at the conductor every couple of beat. They stay together for the most part by just counting in there heads but that is not good enough. You need to take the conductors tempo.
They did great and that was good and the went with the conducter until the middle and the end was a little off but they can do better in the end so thats my thoughts.
Yess number one- i think that they followed well for the most part. i saw a few people tapping there feet thats how i do it. also the fact that the dong has repeating rythems makes it easier to follow the conducter. H.3
There are definately some spots where you think "does that go there?" I also some some spots where the director gave a cue, but there wasn't playing until about a beat after, of course that could've been the quality of the video, but most of it did seem on time. I think the players should be paying more attention, especially on rests. otherwise is was a very interesting peice overall to listen to.
The band never looked at the conductor, which caused them to rush and get off track. They could have looked up at the conductor to get the sense of the speed, and also, they could have listened to each others' parts so they knew what would fit in where.
The band was very good in following the conductor's speed, as well as the dynamics. The band did very well together too, but some parts were very iffy, and to fix that, I think that they should look up to see the tempo, and the same with dynamics, but they did fantastic as a whole band.
I think they did okay (didn't get a chance to watch the whole video). Looks like they lost the conductor a couple of times, but they got back on track. What they can do to stay together is look up at the conductor once in a while and/or listen to the people around you. -Norris V
The band follows the conductor for the most part. At tempo changes there was a bit of a struggle. They are probably not looking up as much as they should be and they could listen to each other better. Looking at the conductor is the big thing to stay together but the band also has to know the music and listen to the band.
They follow very well for most of the song by watching the conductor and also by watching their music. In some parts of the song they sped up probly because they were not looking at the conductor or keeping time by tapping their foot. Otherwise they stay together very nicely for the whole song, even on their mistakes they were together. When the they sped up the sped up together.
This band was on tempo some of the time, then at certain points they sped up when the conductor didn't. I noticed that ALOT of band members weren't reallly watching the conductor. They seemd to know when to speed up and when to slow down, but people weren't watching the conductor at those points. Maybe the conductor wasn't big on getting them to watch him, but that is a big way to learn the music and get it right, because the conductor is always right. And thats the only reference that you have that everyone has access to.
I think the band did alright. In the beginning of the song, the band seemed to be going a little slower than the conductor and later a little faster. Toward the end they were going with the conductor. I could see people looking up at the conductor to see what he was doing. I think they stayed together by listening to each other and following the conductor.
the image was a fuzzy enough so i couldn't tell if they were watching the conductor, but they seemed stayed together very well. the percussion kept a steady rhythm, which was loud enough for the rest of the band to follow
They are dressed properly..and they could listen to eachother and look up to follow the conductor more..and maybe a little er i mean alot more practice...in my opinion.
I think that they followed him fairly well thoughout the song they might have gotten off a little bit here and there but they got back on track shortly after. P.S. I posted at least two comments before the due date why dont they show up and is it late???
i thought they did really good. They followed the conducter well. I only heard a couple of times that they werent following likt a couple of times the crash symbols were alittl behind. I think it was the saxes, they need to play alittlw better. The trumpets need to be just a tiny bit quieter.
i thought that they were a little bit off, but to get them playing great id tell them that they will be on a show on t.v. and I bet they will do better.
I think that they followed him very well. I could see a few kids looking up in the front so i assume the rest of the band was doing the same and that is why they followed their conductor so well.
i thought that the group followed the conductor really well. i know they looked up a lot, because they played exactly the way that the conductor was conducting. -dylan m.
The kids followed the conductors instructions very well and watched and listened. There were some changes in speed and dynamics that they covered fairly well, by watching and listening to each other.
I think that they did very well in this piece. They changed speeds in the beginning very well and the drastic dynamics that the conductor presented were exactly on time with what the band actually did. I know that they stayed together by watching the conductor very closely. This is because every time you play a piece, it is not the same and the conductor does it a little differently without trying. To do better, I think that they can listen closer to each other to perfect their triangle-goal sound. It may be the quality of the video, but although they were right together, their tone didn't sound that great.
I noticed for the most part that they watched the conductor very well. There were some parts where I believe that they were slowing down when they weren't supposed to and the conductor tried his very best to quicken his pace while conducting. I also noticed when the conductor tried to quiet them down, they did exactly that. :) I think a way they they could have stuck together more throughout the song is by not drowning out another instrument. This might have left them confused as to when they were supposed to come in. Other than that they did good =P -Nikki :)

I think they followed the conductor fine. They listen to eachother, no part was faster then the other. I felt the snare drove the piece for the most part of the song. Its a simple part like that if gone wrong, would mess up the whole song. The ending was excelent; right on cue.
I don't think they followed him very well because when he put his arms up in the air and put them down really hard i thought something would have happened and i think there was something suppose to happen but it didn't. They kind of got slower then faster again and that got really annoying. But i liked the piece of music though!
They seemed to do very well, Sure, they sped up and slowed down a little, but it still sounded pretty good! All-In-All I'd give this performance a 7/10.

they followed the conductor well because there were many times when the song slowed down and i thought they did it pretty smoothly and follewed him.. the dynamics were mostly correct to how the conductor conducted them.

They follwed well with the conductor they got off a little, but then they catched up. Although i thought they did good.

I think they followed the conductor fine. They listen to eachother, no part was faster then the other. I felt the snare drove the piece for the most part of the song. Its a simple part like that if gone wrong, would mess up the whole song. The ending was excelent; right on cue.

they were able to follow the conductor pretty good.they look at the conductor to keep on track and thats how they were able to stay together also.

I don't think they followed him very well because when he put his arms up in the air and put them down really hard i thought something would have happened and i think there was something suppose to happen but it didn't. They kind of got slower then faster again and that got really annoying. But i liked the piece of music though!

They seemed to do very well,
Sure, they sped up and slowed down a little, but it still sounded pretty good! All-In-All I'd give this performance a 7/10.
